Cute book with nice designs on decent paper. One sided so the pages will work well with markers and gel pens. This is my only book with black background pages. I normally like to be creative with my backgrounds but it's nice to have something to color that I can knock out quickly and not worry about all that background to color.UPDATE: I finally had a chance to color in this book. I'm sad to say that the texture is a bit course for my liking. I use Prismacolor Premier pencils which are a very good quality artist line. Even though the paper is fairly heavy, the tooth is kind of between copy paper and construction paper which makes it difficult to get a smooth lay down of color. Even after several light layers and then using my blender pencil it was still hard to get the pigment into all the white specs. Maybe a blending medium and paper stump will work better for pencil. I think this book will work best for markers or gel pens. That being said, this is still a fun book. I will just have to use a different medium.

I received my new Southern Sayins’ & Sass. This book is super cute and funny. I love how it’s a chalkboard style book; I have never had one of those before. It’s very different and that’s what makes it more fun and interesting. I’m not southern but I thought it was cute anyways. I like how it’s set on black paper instead of usual white paper; it makes it a little more interesting. I have never colored with a black background before so I am not sure what kinds of mediums I would use to color but I think I will start with colored pencils, markers might be harder to use. The book is single sided which is great so that your colorings will not bleed into the other side of the page. You can either color inside the book or tear it out to color elsewhere. The book is paperback which I think makes it easier to color because the book is more flexible than a hard covered book would be. I think because the background is black the coloring you do will stick out more as opposed to a white background. Overall I think the art is very nice and the book itself is pretty hilarious. I received this product at a discount for my honest and unbiased review.

This book is just adorable! Gives me a chance to express myself in a very unique way through coloring of cute "old South" sayings and sass that I will not be embarrassed to have others see. Drawings are on black paper with a chalkboard look to it. The sayings are ones I've heard my whole life (having grown up in the South) like "Madder Than a Wet Hen" or Hey Shug" and "She's Nuttier Than a Squirrel" and lastly "Never Trust a Skinny Cook", 32 of them in all. The paper itself is nice and thick and should not bleed through with normal markers or gel pens, but do insert card stock or cardboard behind the picture you are working on anyway to keep the following page from being dented or impressions being left. The pages are single sided and are not perforated, however there is enough of a margin that they could be carefully removed from the book without damaging the picture. Each of the sayings is surrounded with wreath shaped flowers & leaves that have a little bit of pre-shading to them, which makes this a great book for beginner colorists as there is nothing too challenging and yet are going to end up as stunning pictures worth framing. I bought this book as a gift for a friend who southern right down to her " bless your heart" bones. I didn't know anything about it or exactly what it actually was. I received it , I was so excited give it to her because I loved it. I wish the item description was more detailed because it is a wonderful grown up coloring book. The images are boldly outlined but this is so the colors used will stand out. Each page has a "southernism" title and you don't have to be from the south to laugh out loud at them. As I said this was a present/bribe but it was just so unique I ordered a set of colored pencils to accompany the book. Personally I would recommend colored pencils over crayons because it gives a watercolor look. I now have 2 beautiful masterpieces from my friend who was just thrilled with it. As a gift or for yourself, this book is imaginative, funny, unique, I highly recommend it

This is such an adorable coloring book! We purchased this for my mom who is super Southern. At one point or another in my life she's said all of these phrases. She absolutely loved it! Not only is it unique because of the chalkboard aspect, but it's just really cute! I would definitely recommend!

I really wish these adult coloring books would show sample pages or at least have an accurate description. The people who reviewed this well were given the product at a discount, for free, or received a different book with the same cover.Let me be clear: there are TWO VERSIONS of this book.1 has a flowery frame around the southern sayings.2 has actual pictures that may or may not relate to the saying but the pictures are drawn in mandalas.I got the one with the mandalas even though the pictures shown here are the flowery border. I wanted the flowers. It was repetitive and dull but it was my preference as I hate mandalas.Rest assured if you want mandalas so tiny not the finest of fine tipped marker can color without running outside the lines, this is your book! I color with pencil and at their sharpest they cannot cope with the detail here.Furthermore, the pages are not thick in the slightest. They are standard children coloring book thick. Yes, they are one-sided but that does little to appease me.The pages are not perforated to remove and color or frame.I give this book 1 star instead of zero because had the pictures just been plain and not mandalas it would be cute.
