I believe one of the reasons many believers are afraid of the idea of brokenness is that they have misconceptions about what brokenness really means. As is true in so many other areas, our idea of brokenness and God's idea of brokenness are usually quite different. For example, some people think of brokenness as always being sad or gloomy. Others think of brokenness as being morbidly introspective: "Oh, woe is me! I've confessed every sin I can possibly think of; but surely there must be something I've missed. Oh, what a worm I am!" False humility and morbid introspection are, in fact, the opposite of brokenness, as they reveal a preoccupation with self, rather than Christ. So what is true brokenness' Someone has said that brokenness, like a fragrance, is easier to detect than to define.

It gave a more meaningful look at how to view sin and repentance in the Christian life. The book explains how the sin of pride adversely affects our walk with God, and blocks any growth or blessings for the believers of Christ. In fact, as I read the book my mind kept going back to the verse in the book of Jeremiah; "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, Who can know it"? The book is for all those who feel something is missing in their life as a Christian. It will open your eyes to those sins you once thought buried. Sometimes confessing your sin to God is not enough; and you have to seek out those you have wronged and ask for forgiveness. In this book Nancy Leigh DeMoss explains what a true and contrite heart is all about. The many anecdotes included in the book show how the process of brokenness can heal our relationship with God, andbring revival to our Churches and communities. This book is not for the faint of heart, but it is worth it!
This book will help you evaluate yourself in regards to pride, selfishness, and humility. Truly, brokenness is what every Christian needs who desires to be greatly used of God. As long as we are selfish and proud, we will not be of much use to God, because God resists the proud, but gives grace to the lowly. This book will help you to "examine yourself," (2 Cor. 13:5). I highly recommend this book, along with books by Andrew Murray on similar subjects.
That which we most often despise is the very trait that God uses most within us to work effectively through us. The power of being weak in God's economy is often understated and the Beaty in brokenness is truly the way of being whole.
This book certainly caused me to take another look at myself. The sin of pride so subtly infiltrates your life that one can easily miss it's entrance. This book was a sharp reminder, an encouragement to turn away, and showed the beauty once again of God's grace. And it was done all in love!
Though the book was a good book, it was a long time before the author really got down to "brokenness" and away from that "I still don't know what happened in that meeting that day" kind of thing. Nancy is surely a great Christian and writer, so my rating is not to take away from her gifts. The book just didn't work for me that much. When it did get down to the topic, though, it was ok.
Everyone has troubles and this book will help retrain you in your way of looking at these troubles. Nancy has a gift for making tough issues more approachable. Highly recommend to everyone even if you are not having problems now.
This book puts in perceptive the real work of the Holy Spirit. It's about a personal walk with God.The book is not a fast read but an intense one that one should journal through. The jewels and gems on these pages cannot be digested quickly but gradually. I recommend as you read this book talk it out within your group or with someone you trust.
All I can say is that God moves in a very special way in this book, unlike any other human-authored book I have ever read in my nearly thirty years as a Christian (I'm 37 now). I could write pages of what God did in my life through this book, but the work God does through this is His miracle, and perhaps I should just say that you would be enriched, changed and renewed by taking the time to read it (or as some may say, have it read you~ it's that sort of book). As it was for me, it may just be the "key" you're looking for in your quest to follow Christ, and help you work past issues of the heart you've struggled with for many years. Just know, you will never be the same...
